Equality and merit corrupted the persian constitution because they changed the aristocratic regime that persia had previously had. Cyrus changed that by adding merit into the political system. An example of this was when he decided to give the spoils of war to his generals, who he then told to distribute to the soldiers that were most deserving of it. In book two, chapter 1, cyrus offers the persian men the same weapons to enter battle with an equal risk as them: contests took place to encourage men to practice. And he offered prizes to captains, promotions to officers, and victory prizes to whole companies, whole platoons, squads of ten, and squads of five. One of the key terms bearry discussed in class is proportional justice. He defined the terms as giving to those who have earned based off effort, in reference to the merit- based system introduced by cyrus.
