PSY 4346 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Implicit-Association Test, Eye Tracking, Human Sexuality
Document Summary
Self- reports participants are asked questions about their sexuality. Can be collected wit paper questionnaires, in interviews, and online: behavioral measures. Direct observation in which the scientist directly observes the behavior and records it. Eye- tracking- a device measures the participants point of gaze. Police reports , the problem is it only detects cases that are reported: implicit measures. Implicit association test measures an individual"s relative strength of association between pairs of concepts. Reaction time is the key to measuring the associations, it"s measured on a computer in milliseconds: biological measures. Master"s and johnson pioneered the measurement of sexual response. Genital measures of sexual response asses arousal by using devices to measure erections in males and vaginal changes in females. In males, penile plethysmography is used, a flexible loop is placed around the penis that measures changes in volume. In females, a vaginal plethysmography is used, to optically measure blood flow to the vagina.
