Already lost vertical integration no longer control exhibition of films. Also, no longer directly control production of most films: unloading all of their things, becomes what we have now. Studios outsource smaller production companies, and themselves are going to distribute studios films. Ua merges w/ mgm, sells back catalog [tcm] Mca/universal shifted to tv and tourism, then bought by matushita. Reinforces emphasis on studios to make money every time this happens. Multiplex theaters [24 screens as opposed to 1-2] 1st built in 1969: 1972 sony betamax, 1975 jvc vhs systems. Proved itself as a viable technology h"wood adapts to. Not just theatrical distribution, only thing studios do: movies for cable and vhs. This creates a subset of studios making the movies.
