Document Summary
Emotion- brief, acute, changes in conscious experience and physiology that occur in response to a personally meaningful situation. Increase chances of survival: formation of intimate relationships, broadens our thinking and behavior. Mood- affective states that affect the likelihood of further emotional responses, tend to be longer than most emotions. Frederickson"s broaden and build model: positive emotions widen cognitive perspective and help us acquire useful skills, negative emotions narrow our focus. People regulate/modify emotions via cognitive/behavioral efforts like reappraisal and expressive- suppression.
