Conscious capitalism (soethe)- more consciously doing something because you"re pressured to do something. Personal utility capitalism (thoreau)- in the 19th century, capitalism was known as individualism because the individual made all the decisions and benefitted the most. Thinks that you need to do things for yourself and be conscious. Believed that no one should be pressured into working 50 hours a week if they didn"t want to. However there was still pressure to do something for a living that you obtain with your individuality. Business practices he stresses are low labor costs, low expenses, low cogs, few employees, and no shareholders. August and ice from the railroads in the winter. Because he only had to work about 6 weeks a year, he uses his extra time to pursue other ideas. Thoreau never wanted to be enslaved in any way. He wanted to be able to control his own hours of work.
