Document Summary

Exam 2 lecture 3 part 3- final lecture before exam 2- transcription. Slide 24- transcription makes rna copy of one of the strands of the dna not both. Slide 25- electron microscope, you see rna coming off the center section of dna. It shows you can actually count the transcription units. Each transcription unit has a beginning and end. This property is responsible for the specificity of proteins. Slide 26- translation and transcription occur at the same time. This process is amplified meaning that from 1 strand of dna you have many rna and from each rna you have many proteins. Rna polymerase synthesizes rna and uses a dna template it is the enzyme responsible for transcription. The oh group is still attacking the phosphate so it goes in the 5 to 3 direction. As soon as you make rna ribosomes get added from translating the protein. Slide 27- rna polymerase can do de novo synthesis.
