Document Summary

Lecture 10 signal transduction/ virology (not on exam 3, but on exam 4) Interacts with rna poly decease/increase its activity via covalent/noncovalent modification. Slide 65- bacteria regulate cell metabolism in response to the environment. Signals can be small molecules that enter the cell and interact with regulatory proteins. Signals can interact with a sensor on the cell surface sensor kinase that transmits the signal to the rest of the regulatory molecule. Response regulatory protein= signal transduction covalent modifications are reversible, regulation occurs by covalent modification. Slide 66- molecule outside cell regulates what is inside cell. Sensor kinase response regulator can also interact via covalent modification or noncovalent modification. Attaching small molecule covalently changes molecule reversible mechanism and is highly regulated. Slide 2- virology (virology teaches us to have an open mind it is an example etc) Slide 3- at this time, microorganisms were only fungus and bacteria (1600s) if you said viruses people would think you were crazy.
