Negotiating con ict: separate the problem issues from the people issues, be soft on people, hard on problem, look for underlying needs. Steps: state your position with conviction, present supporting data, arguments, and facts, structure deals and move on to conclusions. Kinds of arguments: ethos- ethics and morals, logos- logic, pathos- feelings and emotions. Techniques: bandwagon, cardstacking, snob appeal, glittering generalities, logic, positive and negative consequences, emotional appeals, testimonial, namecalling, repetition, scienti c data vs facts.
