Document Summary
Extra credits season 4 episode 26: mechanics as metaphor (part 2) Game mechanics have a meaning in loneliness , that the play and not the cut scenes/dialogue tell the story and allows the player to explore an idea: something we need to see more of in the aaa industry. Remember, as a designer, crafting meaning with mechanics, you create a space of possibility. Your job is simply to choose the bounds of the experience and allow the player as much freedom to explore within those bounds as possible. Many games generally start with a mechanic, art style, story concept, marketing plan or worse, getting started with no central idea at all. Loneliness makes the assumption of imagination: it trusts that at some point throughout the experience, you will personify the dots and think of them as people, i bet 95% thought of them that way, or representing people.
