Dr low in colonies because of abundance of land = food high = less disease. Infants much lower death rate than in europe; nutrition matters to them indirectly. Mothers are healthier in na so babies live . breast feeding nutrients. Also low b/c live in rural areas so low urbanization. Life expectancy below the age of 5 determines life expectancy.
