Data: advertisements and news agencies take advantage of data misconceptions to persuade you with graphs. Patterns: pattern misconceptions lead to misidentification of patterns and decisions made based on these patterns. Measurement: overgeneralizations about the metric system contribute to measurement misconceptions. There are three averages: mean, median, and mode. In statistics, you can use which ever average suits you best. There were 28, 29, or 30 coins most often stacked: median = 28. An equal number of people stacked more than 28 coins and less 28 coins: mean = 27. 2. If everyone stacked the same number of coins, then they would stack 27. 2 coins. Women = mean is 83, median is 86; mode is 90. Men = mean is 79, median is 82, mode is 86. Medical test that is 99% accurate; 1% of people could get false positive. Could sample one class of 20 people, then report it out as the average college student.
