Charlotte"s death is seen as part of the circle of life. Circle of life evens the playing field. Animals at the top of the food chain cannot always remain dominant. Three key words: circle of life, natural, food chain. Charlotte dies a natural death, whereas wilbur would have died at the hands of humans. Flies died prematurely, so it is hard to put in the context of the circle of life. The book highlights the difference between naturally and unnaturally. Charlotte explains to wilbur that eating flies is necessary for her to eat. Flies are integrated into the circle of life but they are required for food. First image in the book is a picture of fern and her dad with an ax in between them. Some animals are made a certain way. Need a various amount of nutrients that can come from different food sources. Charlotte takes over the motherly role from fern.
