Ambedkar: how does ambedkar complicate the narrative of gandhi as the father of the nation, bhimrao ambedkar (1891 - 1956) Belonged to the mahar caste (untouchables: lowest of the castes lived in a very poor neighborhood. Wrote a biography where he didn"t enjoy kids of the untouchable caste and he had friends in other neighborhoods (upper), but couldn"t chill with them. Caste pollution: much of the work done by the people in the lowest caste incorporates unwanted tasks. Ambedkar"s youth: moved to bombay in 1897, enrolled in elphinstone college; only untouchable caste in his class, became high ranking of cer in the government leaves and moves to the usa to study at. Wrote a thesis about caste and the need to throw the caste system away. Ambedkar goes back to india in 1918: became a professor in sydenham college in mumbai. However, students refused to take his class because he was an untouchable.
