Dominant religion = islam: however, country is secular. Jute industry and been growing under the east india company. The adamjee family, tatas, birlas nanced the industry. Additionally nanced the jute industry in east india. Nancing the jute industry because it was too di cult to travel to east pakistan (bangladesh) cultivating riots. Domination of urdu in (both) pakistan: argument that urdu would kill and create two provinces. Urdu replacing bengali as the language of east pakistan would kill the bengali culture: another argument that the domination of urdu was a ploy because it was the administrative language. Hence displacing bengalis in east pakistan who didn"t know how to speak or converse in urdu decreasing the amount of bengali"s in government o cial work. Broke away from the muslim league over the language dispute 1949. A bengali language movement took place marking the emergence of linguistic nationalism. Led by students and intellectuals centered around university of dhaka.
