Emerging views in the 90s: end of cold war we thought we were the only super power left promote globalization. Then 9/11 happened and our views changed: we went back to the dualistic views us vs. them, from globalization to the war on terror, clinton"s economic policies at the center (the new conservatism holds) Temporary assistance to needy family, 1996 (end of aid to families with dependent children) Reagan message (extremely conservative) did not go away right away it held on. Clinton was from the vietnam generation: bush sr. from the wwii generation, clinton had a record as a draft dodger followed him throughout his presidency. Hated by a lot of the republicans, just did not like him. Communism had collapsed, only capitalism left in the world: moment when clinton took office that he was the most powerful man in the world.
