The us constitution was not written to create a democracy; on the contrary it was written by people who feared democracy: thought state governments were becoming too democratic central government to regulate it. Articles of confederation was meant to produce a loosely diplomatic relationship between sovereign states. Inequalities: among men and women, men were distinguished too different levels of wealth and property. Gentleman vs. common man: to be a gentleman means that you get more respect, common man = grubby, rude, irrational. Who leads the american revolution gentlemen or the common man: can"t gain influence in the revolutionary era without some sense of gentility.
