Deinstitutionalized courtship: focus more on school/careers, individualistic approach, post-sexual revolution culture, no clear gender norms, more secular culture, not getting much guidance. The 20 something years: laissez faire relational world. Courtship among college- educated in early 20s: similar to college, focus for most is mix of fun, career, education, freedom and flexibility in relationships. Social/cultural environment not focused on marriage for people in their 20"s: leisure and entertainment industries, education and work, state and elites, exceptions: religion and internet dating services. Relational consequences of no clear gender and sex norms: alpha girls and child men, sexual freedom. Courtship among college-educated in late 20s and 30s: unmarried women sober up, older women take more serious approach to search for spouse. Most americans to get married by age 30.
