The ultimate goal of nutrition intervention in the older adult population is to maintain/enhance quality of life: become healthier overall, weight loss may be a side effect. Assess by functional status rather than age alone: tailored individual counseling. Assess by economic, social interactions, and living arrangements: wellness is strongly impacted by their economic status, social cohesion and their living arrangements, how are they storing their foods, food illnesses. Decreased energy needs; nutrient-dense foods: age-related malnutrition, may have decreased appetite.
