His mother dies (when he is 6) and he is no longer considered part of the tribe. Was visited by a force that speaks to him (revelation) & thought he was crazy. He visits his wife"s cousin (who is a christian) & is told that he was visited by. He started telling about his revelations -> he states that this isn"t a new religion but an extension of christianity and judaism. No one listened to him- he claimed monotheism. If this was true, then all the statues/ gods that the tribes worshiped were not real. His first follower is ali (9 years old) They are prosecuted & his uncle is killed. They left mecca & went to medina to build the first muslim community. Abu talib- muhammad"s uncle who raises him as a son. Kaba- the home of all the gods from all the tribes that come to mecca.
