Self control = ability to inhibit impulses, obey rules, ignore distractions, be patient, and stay focused. Relatively stable; young kids who are high in self-control tend to be so later on. Ability to delay gratification gradually improves with age ability to lie (quality) increases with age. Still only last a few seconds on delayed gratification. Ability to delay gratification lasts much longer (minutes) Measurement changes: would you rather have now or a month from now. Adolescents are still more impulsive than older adults.
