Environment: surrounding physical, chemical, and biological factors that influence or affect an organism. In this course, we will also study natural elements (water, etc. ) of earth. Course perspective: how we, as humans, influence the environment, and how the it affects us. Learning outcomes: understand the material of earth and the natural processes that shape the earth, use evidence to support/reject theories about earth, discuss geological resources, look at the impacts of human actions on earth. Course structure: earth history, materials, global processes, critical zone where life happens in the layers of earth, resources human usage and stewardship. Lectures: tuesday and thursday 9:55-10:45 am (room ab20, weeks hall) Discussion sections (required): one per week (room a220, weeks hall) Class attendance and participation: 10% of grade: tophat: use for attendance (code: 8345351) Discussion section participation and assignments: 30% of grade: week 1: tour of the geology museum, assignments given in discussion will be due the following week in discussion.
