Notes: action coordination in society requires communication. Journalism system: how journalists have accomplished those functions? (basic journalistic roles, us journalism systems, party system, penny press, market system, twenty first century. Managing editor- the person in charge decided what is published, what is not published. Editors (theme/copy) - decided what is worth highlighting for everyone. In an effort to be more transparent some editors are streaming their decision process live: there is also a copy editor that does fact checking. Reporters- (life of the news room): investigating, getting stories, shooting stories, in the past specialization was important for reporters but this is not so true anymore. Ombudsperson- (people you contact if you feel like you have been misrepresented) Opinion writers/columnist- (strong distinction between columnist and reporters: they talk about things that would interest readers, it is clear that is opinions not facts, though it may also contain facts.
