Only 18% seek mental treatment in 12 months because. 1)they don"t know if they are mentally sick: they think they can handle it themselves. 3)so many treatments- finding the right one is difficult. Roughly one in four of adults suffer from a diagnosable disorder each year: 18 % anxiety, 9 % mood disorder, 1% schizophrenia. Roughly one in five children have any disorder in a given years: 13% anxiety, 6% mood disorders, 10% disruptive disorders, 2% substance abuse. Abnormal behavior results from some physical dysfunction. Psychological disorders are the result of past and present life experiences: psychodynamic: intrapsychic conflict, behavioral: abnormal behavior is learned, cognitive: distorted thinking in way to perceive the world. Anxiety and depression more common in women. Substance abuse and antisocial personality more common in men. Women are taught to express emotions; men are more antisocial.
