Document Summary

Definition of a biome: region with a certain climate and vegetation. Geographic regions that are globally distributed and have characteristic vegetation. Responsible for knowing all the biomes in the book. Know the latitudes, mountain influence, available water/precipitation, and climate. They are all aligned horizontally except the mountain ranges of the americas. Tropics of capricorn and cancer are 23 latitude. Global cloud cover: lots of clouds = more rain (60 north & south latitude are beyond deserts) Mountains influence biomes because of rain shadow patterns: air passes over a mountain and becomes arid, which creates a rain shadow. Elevation how high above sea level: higher = colder, latitude = how far north and south from equator, warmer weather and rainfall = more vegetation. Latitude & longitude: latitude can only be 90 (equator to poles) Lat = fat, makes a circle that gets smaller (farther from equator: longitude is 180 is halfway opposite of prime meridian.
