tech, design, etc. (describing what it looks like and what its made of)
Natural ----- Abstract

something and determine what they might’ve meant back then
CONTEXT artist, patron, audience, critic, physical location, social/political,
historical environment (appropriation attach a meaning that the artist didn’t
intend)

Neolithic = New Stone Age
(upper Paleolithic 38,000-8,000 BC)
Makapansgar Pebble Jasperite (water worn pebble)
o Found with remains of a caveman in South Africa (3,000,000 BCE)
o Jasperite was found 25 miles away from the cave
o Caveman didn’t carve it, he probably recognized something in it
(human face) and kept it.
Paleolithic Hand Axes (2,500,00-30,000 BCE)
o Altered by human beings
o Looking for an enhanced meaning + realized the areas where found
that there were more hand axes than the population would ever need.
