Sex and the city or, new urban sexualities. People changed their minds about the one sex model and switched to the two sex model . Women were seen in paintings with fruit to signify fertility. Women were viewed as passive sexually, even passionless . Biologists claimed women no longer played a role in reproduction, and their bodies were not the same as men"s. Men were seen as sexual aggressors, they needed to learn sexual self-control. Women were viewed as religiously devoted with higher intellectual levels. Changes in the typical age at marriage/changes in birth rates. The saying, great with child changed to expecting a little stranger (euphemisms for pregnancy) A rise in voluntary motherhood lead to better attention to children. Less of a view of women"s bodies as mere vessels. Birth rates for women in urban settings declined, though they were typically higher for women in rural areas. There were no concepts of birth control during the time.
