80-90% of chlamydial infections and 50% of gonococcal infections in women are asymptomatic. Most widespread bacterial sti in the us, caused by chlamydia trachomatis. Women: burning w urination, pain with intercourse, abdominal pain, pid, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, highest rates occur in 15-24 year olds. Men: epididymitis, urethritis, painful urination, water discharge from the penis, pain around testicle, infertility; highest rates occur 20-24 year olds. Gonorrhea caused by infection with the neisseria gonorrhea bacterium. Cause of common warts, genital warts, and genital cancer. More than 80% infected by age 50 but most have no symptoms. Hpv highly prevalent in us among sexually active women. Most hpv infections in women resolve within 1 year. Persistent infection with specific types of the virus are casually related to cervical cancer. Most people have no symptoms and are not aware they are contagious; immune system usually clears virus and infection disappears without treatment. Recommended for girls and boys(gardisil) aged 11 and 12.
