Richer was the first person to make an experimental film. And then the scratched film which is made entirely by scratching frames. He was inspired and became an experimental film artist. Free radicals is a film which features experimental filmmakers. It consists of interviews and famous experimental films. The poor filmmakers would only make art using what they had around. They could only afford so many resources, so they would improvise. This encouraged them to be resourceful and create new techniques because they had limited resources. One filmmaker was talking about only being able to afford one light. This meant he was unable to light his subjects enough to make their faces visible which made them silhouettes. This aesthetic, while chosen because of financial constraints, is extremely successful. He was able to make his limitations work for his artwork while still being extremely successful.
