We must assess the perspectives our clients may hold about their communities. We need to determine the ways in which the client is motivated to develop and maintain supports within his community (meeting the client where they are). Remember: how you perceive your own society will affect your choices for intervention with your client"s communities. Client views community as a set of spatial arrangements. Things to consider when assessing a community"s spatial arrangements: Geography: location of client in relation to resources/supports. Access: what services are available in that community. Community viewed as a setting for unceasing conflict. Characterized by competing interest groups who wish to protect and expand their privileges, without serious concern for the fate of others.
