Human health: eye problems, skin cancers uv penetrates the skin, cancer in squamous, basal cells, melanoma (the worst) Why pay attention to this depletion of ozone? (uv risk) Montreal protocol (1982) phase out of cfcs. Copenhagen protocol (1992) accelerate phase out, montreal protocol needed updating. Problem: cfcs do(cid:374)"t disappear; the(cid:455)"re inert in the environment. Substitutes from the ones that are banned, hfc: hydroflourocarbons replace. Cfcs, not subject to the same regulations, chlorine out of the chemical makeup (although an alternative, they are greenhouse gasses and have long atmospheric lifetimes)
