Document Summary

Jesus"s crucifixion and how the traditional story attempts to explain it. However, he points out the flaws of this explanation such as its failure to put the responsibility on mankind and instead give. [our] reprieve is none of [our] own fault (24). It would also mean that god himself is unjust for punishing the innocent (jesus) instead of the guilty (us). Instead we should look at the story as a way of forgiveness in which we are not punished but rather fully forgiven for our sins. I agree with hefling"s criticism of the crucifixion story because if it is approached the traditional way then mankind is no longer held responsible for our sins. That being said i still feel it would have been effective for god to punish mankind and spare the innocent jesus. Why the cross? - jesus had to suffer on the cross because mankind needed salvation and the cross was a strong signal to demonstrate his suffering.
