Document Summary

Lesson 7 animal bodies are organized and maintain homeostasis. Tissues in embryonic development: three germ layers, endoderm, mesoderm, ectoderm, each germ layer differentiates into different cell types and tissues. Epithelial tissue: covers all surfaces, provides protective barrier, simple or stratified, squamous, cuboidal, columnar. Connective tissue: two major types, connective tissue proper, special connective tissues, cells in extracellular matrix, matrix = ground substance & protein fibers (collagen, elastin) Muscle tissue: specialized for contraction, myosin and actin, smooth, skeletal, and cardiac, voluntary or involuntary. Nerve tissue: neurons are specialized to conduct impulses. Overview of organ systems: 4 systems regulate and maintain body chemistry, respiratory, urinary, digestive, circulatory, 2 systems help to defend itself. Immune: 2 systems participate in support and movement, muscular, skeletal, 1 system is involved in reproduction and development, reproductive, 2 systems are involved in communication and integration, nervous, endocrine. Important homeostatic conditions: temperature, ph, glucose concentration, oxygen concentration, homeostasis is dynamic and always reacting and changing.
