Sources of american law: statutory and case law are the main two. Statutory law (created by legislatures: codified law that is very specific that is the result of political processes. These people than create what that law looks like: pork barrel politics: adding something to a law that helps them personally or their state. Case law (created by courts: interpretations by judges are law, much of the law is case law something decided by a court. In pr all three forms of law will affect you. However, within the corporate world administrative law is the most common form of regulation. Law oftentimes coincides with ethics for communication practitioners, i. e. unethical behaviors are oftentimes illegal behaviors. This creates conflict between what is good advocacy personal values and what the law allows. These ethics can be found in: personal philosophies, prsa member code of ethics international public relations association code, international association of business communicators.
