Compromised of two parts: arithmetic logic unit (alu) Handles all of the computations and logical operations the cpu needs to. Essential to the cpu in getting the computer"s job done: control unit. Handles controlling the rest of the computer. Fetching and decoding instructions, selecting drives, handling input and output, etc. Set of components that allow the computer to communicate with the outside world. Typical input devices: keyboards, mouse, touch pad, touch screen, etc. Typical output devices: screen, printer, network connections, etc. Specialized computers can either have little to no input or output. Very fast registers that are on the cpu. There is main memory (can be as large as 16-32 gbs) Lecture 1: might be in the form pf spinning hard disks or solid state drives, these drives can be from a few hundred mbs to over 1tb.
