Also called normative-crisis models - useful when considering the normal and expected challenges met by most adults during young, middle and late adulthood. Timing-of-events models: emphasize age and life circumstances, social and cultural expectations and historical context. Adolescence and emerging adulthood 12-18 (sometimes 10 to 19) and 18-25. Two elements involved in struggle with identity cohesion and role confusion. Commitment: ability to choose/commit to a particular option. Key elements of young adulthood: depth in personal relationships and ability to make lasting ones. Do not believe in striving for depth in relations.
