PSCI 1034 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Class Action, Amicus Curiae
Document Summary
Most argue that concentrations of power lead to status quo politics. The masses suffer while those at the top of the pyramid benefit. Some say that status quo politics influences people to have less political efficacy and potentially not vote. Corporations, at the top, can hire workers and pay them wages. The elitist model of power fits with the conflict model. Having fewer people that possess power could possibly create order by ensuring that not too many people are within the process. Multiple rulers- too much conflict of interest between rulers could create political conflict. Most political scientists, when thinking about power, tend to default back to pluralist theories. One of the key components to pluralist thought is interest groups. Form a groups and you can accomplish a lot. In terms of political participation, it is better to act within a group, rather than an your own. Interest groups refer to any collection of people trying to influence government.
