Ahmadinejad: (incumbent) religious hard line politician who has been a major critic of the united states and israel. He was strongly supported to the fundamentalist population. Mousavi: reformist politician, pm, expediency council member, and very educated at tehran university. Lots of pro-mousavi rallies with thousands of people dressed in green from all walks of life. He was seen as a hero to the secular population. The 2009 elections had an 85% voter participation (up from 59% before) there was participation from many demographic groups and many levels of religious observance. Ahmadinejad won with 68% of the vote; some wonder if the election was fraudulent, but it is impossible to know for sure, as un observers were not allowed in. Lots of protests following the 2009 elections green movement . One larger protest included about three million people from all ethnic groups; people held up signs reading where is my vote? .
