Document Summary

Respiration deep and regular, able to maintain posture upright- not deep sleep. Low voltage high frequency is where you should be if you"re healthy. If electrodes measure high voltage low frequency that"s an issue. Eog measures muscle movement in the eye but you should do emg to measure movement of other skeletal muscles (they should be paralyzed if you"re in rem) Eeg pattern and sleep stage will change as you go through the stages of sleep. Awake- high freq low voltage, drowsy wakefulness, alpha waves= 8-12 hz, better brains produce more alpha. 2 10 minutes, transition stage between very light to deep sleep, sleep spindles. 3 first appearance of delta waves in eeg (ocean waves), 1-4 hz. 4- deepest sleep very low frequency high voltage, greater than 50% delta, serotonergic. Average person goes into rem sleep in about 90 minutes. Elderly spend significantly more time in stage 1 and can"t sleep still- serotonin.
