Document Summary

Pavlov hypothesized that many of our learned behaviors could be due to innate reflexes. Present cs w/ the us over multiple trials. Use airpuff to eye (us) paired w/ cs to elicit eyeblink startle response. Us is paired w/ cs such as tone. Repeated trials leads to cs will suppress ongoing activity. Taste aversion learning taste/smell of food is cs. Eat/drink it then given poison to make it (us) Posits that cs becomes replacement for us. Hypothesis: if s-s is correct then after conditioning the cr will depend on continuous strength of both cs center and us center association. Habituation: repeated exposure to stimulus will decrease magnitude of reflexive behavioral response. Found that control group showed more suppression during test phase and decreased suppression in habituation group. Phase ends when growth begins to plateau. After repeated exposure to cs w/out us, cr will eventually disappear. Gradual process that takes longer than acquisition phase.
