KINE 200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Simple Squamous Epithelium, Egg Cell, Sclera
Document Summary
Di erent structures of the cells will determine which of the following functions they carry out. As a whole, this group allows for: di usion, osmosis and ltration, secretion of materials, absorption of ions, protection. Cells form a layer that is covering organs or lining cavities in the body. Rest on a basement membrane which is made of bers and glycoproteins: anchor cells, barrier against substances. These two terms refer to the amount of layers of cells in the epithelial tissue. Simple = a single layer of epithelial cells: di usion/osmosis, filtration, secretion/absorption. Strati ed = more that one layer of epithelial cells: protection. Squamous = cells have a at appearance. Thin structure allows for easy movement of gases and nutrients across the layer. Locations : kidney (bowman"s capsule) ltration of blood contents, blood vessel lining allows for nutrient and gas exchange, lung alveoli gas exchange. Cuboidal = cube like appearance resemble blocks lined up.
