Document Summary

Tissue, four basic types, epithelium, covering and lining, glandular, connective tissue, connective tissue proper. Fatty connective tissue: bone, cartilage, vascular, muscular tissue, nervous tissue, epithelium, classified criteria, number of cells in the layer. Stratified- two or more cells thick: shape of the cells. Cuboidal- block shaped, high as they are tall. Increasing surface area and increasing rate of absorption but doesn"t increase the size of the cell and effect diffusion. Holds mucus in place and prevents it from sliding down inside the body: cilia. Do move, back and forth, sweeping motion. Supported by microtubules- nine plus two arrangement, with two central microtubules, and 9 doublets around the outside. Ducts- pathways to get to the surface, made of covering and lining epithelium. Collagen fibers- most common, good at resisting tension. Reticular fibers- around blood vessels and nerves as they pass through. Elastic fibers- are elastic, stretch and go back to their original shape.
