Document Summary

Epithelial and connective tissues: epithelial tissues cover surfaces, line cavities and form glands, especially protect water from escaping, epithelial tissues named according to cell shape and arrangement, kidney is a boundary organ, simple epithelial are involved in transport. Arrangement of cells all reach basement membrane ( blue part) so technically it is a single layer of cells you just have some short and some tall cells. In passageways to lungs cilia is to catch pollen, carbon, mite, dirt etc. before it goes into lungs. The celia then move in waves to move the mucus and trapped debris and destroy it by swallowing: smokers cough= destroy epithelium that line upper repertory tract. Can grow back if you quit smoking: connective tissues- cells rarely touch due to usually large amounts of intercellular material (extracellular matric) It is what cells contribute to the space in between that gives the connective tissues their function. Matrix (fibers and ground substances) secreted by cells.
