What is a heuristic? simple, efficient rules which people often use to form judgments and make decisions. They are mental shortcuts that usually involve focusing on one aspect of a complex problem and ignoring others. In a range of contexts, individuals arrive at collective decisions by sharing confidence in their judgements. Bahrami et all performed an experiment in which two individuals observed a visual target and then shared their confidence of their answer with another. Accuracy for this task went up when sharing confidence was done because it allowed each individual to identify who was more likely to be correct in a given situation.
