Document Summary

Early on in american history, people wrote fact-based books. They wrote about their experiences in europe that drove them to the new world and what happened once they arrived, such as with william bradford. Others wrote their thoughts and feelings, such as anne. Bradstreet, who wrote hers in the form of poetry. These two writers show how early american literature evolved slowly over time. It also shows how puritan literature laid the foundation for. William bradford wrote the history of plymouth plantation which was his journal and held historical accounts in it as well. He wrote how he joined a group of separatists and how he and the others had to escape to avoid persecution. He was one of the writers, which were generally men at this time, who wrote based on facts and what they truly experienced. It is the most authoritative account of the pilgrims and the early years of the colony that they founded.
