What is art? the visual expressions of an idea or experience formed with skill through the use of a. Medium- the materials and techniques used to make art. The arts- art forms such as music, dance theater, literature, the visual arts, Visual arts- art forms including drawing, painting, sculpture, lm and architecture. Visual elements- lines, shapes, color, texture used to create imagery (plastic elements) Design- combination of the visual elements, according to certain principles (balance and unity) Renaissance- french for rebirth, period xiv and xv centuries in europe. Allegorical-people and events have symbolic meaning, extended metaphor. Ready-mades - pieces of art that are ready made". Assemblages- put together disparate pieces to create a singular art. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder . Art as utilitarian, as the embellishment of everyday things . Art can be repository for personal and collective histories, ideas and events . Art as an important vehicle for deeply held ideas and expression .
