40 views2 pages

Document Summary

Phaedo is one of the men at socrates" final hours. Socrates provided evidence that philosophers should look forward to death: opposites- tall man becomes tall because he was once short. Death is the opposite of life and death. Belief in cycle of life and death: theory of recollection. All learning is recollecting what we already know. Our soul existed before we were born: affinity immortal vs mortal. Our soul is immortal, our death is mortal, and it will survive death: form of life. It is convincible to think the soul is ever being anything but alive. Dike- to just do what you"re expected to do. Plato and aristotle change this word to dika, to mean to give someone what they deserve. Plato thinks in order to be moral you need to know the form of goodness. People who behave badly because they don"t know any better, or know the form of being good.
