Root - the most important note of the triad; what the triad is named and based off of. Major triad - major third and perfect fifth. Minor triad - minor third and perfect fifth. Diminished triad - minor third and diminished fifth0. Augmented triad - major third and augmented fifth. Simple position - the appears on the bottom and the third and fifth in order. Expanded position - doubling (duplicating tones in other octaves) and by spreading the chord tones over a wider range. Inverted chords - when a tone other than the root of the triad appears in the bass. Root position - when the root is in the bass. First inversion - when the third is in the bass.
