Document Summary

Epiphyseal plate is location of sin arthorthisis joing (a non moving joint- before epiphyses fuse w diaphysis each epiphysis is a separate bone) Joint is anywhere that one bone is adjacent to another bone and here have two joints (proximal epiphysis and diaphysis 1 joint and and other joint is distal epiphysis and diaphysis) still a joint even tho no movement. Tendon will be woven into periosteum -- tied to it. Osteogenic cells (stem cells) that will develop into bone and cartilage are found in periosteal space between tough, fibrous periosteum and bone itself. Osteoclast- giant, phagocytic (secrete enzymes that digest tissue around them) and engulf tissue around them. Move into zone of cartilage at edge and digest away cartilage and make (temporarily) big hollow spaces in middle of cartilage but then an osteoblast moves in, osteoblasts surround themselves w bone matrix and develop into mature bone cells. Bone is a highly vascularized tissue (lots of blood vessels)
