Each participant has equal chance of being in any group. Often used when completion of one condition could affect performance in the other. Knowing other exp could affect results so diff subjects. Easier to find statistical diff between conditions. Extraneous variables is less since same subjects. No treatment induced but subjects think something is attributed to it. Clever hans and maggie the counting dog. Oskar pfungst tested to see if animal could count. Oskar realized that horse can"t count but could see expectations of experimenter and stop based on facial efforts. Small diff can motivate participant sometimes by accident. Experimenter and participant blind to condition to fix this issue. Useful when manipulating variables is not ethical or practical. Measure 2 or more variables and examine relationship between them. Strength and direction of relationship between 2 variables. Ex:seniors having more sex than you think. In depth investigation of ppl who have weird things in their history.
