In 3500 bc, ancient egyptians would burn incense to honor their gods and use different herbs and spices to exile the evil spirits believed to have caused illness - referred to as first practice of aromatherapy. 400 bc hippocrates used fennel, parsley and valerian root aromatherapy to help sure ailments fastest growing complementary therapy in the united states. Can be used topically or by inhalation. When used in massage its thought that the oil is absorbed through the skin directly and travels through the bloodstream to promote whole body healing. Was found to reduced blood pressure and promote sleep as well. Can also be used during labor to decrease mother"s pain.
